Boston's Weekly Dig: Mar 13 - Mar 20, 2002
Spooky Little Art Thing - by Suzanne Kammlot
(ceremonial offerings was coordinated, curated, and promoted by addamidiom:productions)

You know the saying: "I won't drink beer in your museum, if you don't hang art in my bar." But what if the beer is a tasty rich pint o' Guinness and the art is actually some very interesting pieces gathered from denizens of the goth/industrial scene? That, you just gotta support. So stick a bookmarker in your Ambrose Bierce, switch off the Wolfsheim and skulk over to An Tua Nua for Ceremonial Offerings- Art in Context.

An Tua Nua's long-standing Monday night darkside dance event, Ceremonial Offerings, expands to explore the work of 10 visual artists who are involved in the Boston area goth/industrial scene and darkwave venues and promotional exploits, when they're not mining their tortured souls for sublime images and transcendent techniques.

With those sort of cryptic creative credentials, you can be sure the variety of artistic expression hanging off the rafters will be murky, moody, ephemeral, eerie, enticing, erotic and all that good and shadowy stuff. Note to Mr. "Painter of Light" Thomas Kinkade fans: Stay the hell home! Those presenting works include Addam, Cockroach (Andrew Lindsay), Jen Von Ohlsen, Forrest Frazier, Matt Towler, Daniel Rhinehardt, Aaron White, Amy Butts, Josh Fraser, and Shelby Doll. Plus many of the pieces will be available for purchase. But if you're tempted to blurt out another expression, "Fuck Art, Let's Dance", you'll be glad to know that complementing the show will be the aural arrangements of DJ Lady Bathory, Ceremony's own high priestess of the turntables, plus the spinning legacies of Lost Boy, and Gryffin.

Ceremonial Offerings- Art in Context, Monday, March 18 at An Tua Nua, 835 Beacon St., Boston. 9pm- 1am. 617.262.2121 or log on http://www.ceremonyboston.com
