innovations is the current culmination of an altered image process i began working on in 1999. the original images are shot with polaroid black and white 600 instant film, undergo a partially destructive process, and are remade as negatives on ortho film. the idea originated from a desire to make copies of otherwise unduplicatable instant photos, and began a series of research and darkroom experiments. i have never seen an image quality like this in any other forum. the loss of certain tones give the images a spectral quality, and an enhanced tone separation. it also can reveal details that were not visible in the instant print.
the intention of this series is to explore the possibilities of this process as an innovative expression of beauty and the revelations of irony in the depths of shadows.

"deconstruction of the wheel"

this old rusted ferris wheel leans askew in an apparently unused lot wedged between a go-kart raceway and a miniature golf course. millennia of human technology went into it's construction, but nature is slowly reclaiming it's lost elements as the rust becomes soil.

"the essence of her enigma" / "the rapture"

the female of the species is undoubtedly the vessel of great mysteries. this has been expressed through the artwork of many in many cultures since the dawn of the creative spirit, which, i can only assume, was born of a woman. beauty is only one of those mysteries.

"angels"

the inspiration for the innovation. angels indeed.

"silhouette"

an experiment in shapes and shadows. the pose of the model in the window was selected to emphasize the shape of the small vase... and the synchronistic introduction of feline curiousity greatly enhanced the grace of such an image.
